New Delhi: Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has backed Devdutt Padikkal to take up the crucial No. 3 position in India’s Test batting line-up, urging selectors to give the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter a long-term opportunity in the format.

Ashwin’s remarks came after Padikkal’s steady knock for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Raipur. The left-handed batter scored 39 runs off 27 balls, striking seven boundaries and showcasing composure at the No. 3 spot.
