BCCI Opposes Pakistan’s Name on Jerseys Ahead of Champions Trophy

Mumbai: A new controversy has emerged surrounding the upcoming Champions Trophy scheduled to take place in Pakistan and the UAE from February to March. According to sources, the BCCI is firm in its stance against displaying the host nation’s name, Pakistan, on their players’ jerseys. Additionally, the board has decided that Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, will not attend the captains’ press conference or the photo shoot in Pakistan.

The BCCI has also requested the ICC to relocate the events, set to occur before the tournament begins on February 19, from Pakistan to Dubai. While the ICC has already agreed to India’s request to play its Champions Trophy matches outside Pakistan, the matter of the jerseys is seen as a minor issue by the BCCI.

This development has angered the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which views the BCCI’s actions as politicizing the sport. A PCB official expressed disappointment, suggesting that the ICC should intervene and uphold its traditions. According to ICC rules, it’s customary for teams to display the host nation’s name on their jerseys, regardless of the actual location of the tournament.

The ongoing tension between BCCI and PCB is only exacerbated by India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan, with India’s matches set to be held in the UAE. The eight-team competition will start on February 19 and conclude on March 9, with games held across Dubai, Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.
