Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed its crucial meeting with Indian Premier League (IPL) stakeholders that was scheduled for October 15, 2026, in Mumbai. The decision comes as BCCI officials are required to attend a felicitation ceremony for the Indian men’s and women’s teams hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on the same day.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the postponement in a statement on Tuesday. The meeting was called as the IPL prepares to enter its landmark 20th season in 2027.

The revised date and venue have not yet been announced. According to the Board, the decision was also influenced by requests from various stakeholders who sought a postponement.

Prime Minister’s felicitation ceremony leads to postponement

The BCCI had scheduled a joint meeting with IPL franchise owners, chief executive officers, state associations hosting IPL matches and broadcasters for October 15 in Mumbai.

However, the date coincides with a felicitation ceremony in New Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to honour the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games.

Both teams’ gold medal-winning performances are the reason for the ceremony, according to the BCCI statement.

With Board officials expected to attend the event, the BCCI decided to postpone the Mumbai meeting to facilitate participation by the relevant stakeholders.

Saikia confirmed that the meeting had been postponed and explained that the Prime Minister’s programme was a key factor behind the decision.

BCCI cites requests from IPL stakeholders

The Board also received requests from several stakeholders asking for the meeting to be postponed.

According to Saikia, the decision was taken both because of the felicitation ceremony and to allow the maximum number of participants to attend the meeting in person.

The BCCI’s statement said the meeting involving IPL franchise owners, CEOs, hosting state associations and broadcasters would not take place on the originally scheduled date.

The Board has not yet provided a revised schedule. Saikia said the new date and venue would be communicated in due course.

The postponement means the various IPL stakeholders will have to wait for the rescheduled meeting to discuss matters connected with the league’s preparations for its 20th season.

IPL prepares for its landmark 20th season

The meeting was scheduled at an important point for the IPL, which is set to enter its 20th season next year.

The planned gathering was intended to bring together representatives of the franchises, the state associations responsible for hosting matches and broadcasters, alongside BCCI officials.

Bringing these groups together provides an opportunity for the Board and the league’s stakeholders to meet collectively as preparations for the next season approach.

However, the supplied statement does not specify the individual agenda items that were due to be discussed. It also does not provide details of any decisions that may have been planned for the meeting.

For now, the immediate development is the postponement itself, with the BCCI prioritising attendance at the national teams’ felicitation ceremony and responding to requests from stakeholders.

Revised date and venue awaited

The BCCI has confirmed that the October 15 meeting in Mumbai has been postponed, but a new date and venue are yet to be announced.

The Board’s next communication is expected to provide the revised arrangements, allowing franchise representatives, hosting state associations, broadcasters and officials to plan their participation.

Until then, the meeting remains pending as the IPL moves towards its 20th season in 2027.

The postponement was announced by BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, who said the decision was made to facilitate maximum participation in person. The Board has not provided further details about the rescheduled meeting.
