Thirteen-year-old Srishti Kiran has achieved a milestone that few Indian tennis players have managed at such a young age, becoming the world’s highest-ranked player in the Under-13 category.

A dream run on the global stage

The Bengaluru teenager reached the final of the ITF J100 tournament in Guatemala, where she faced top seed Ellery Mendell of the United States. Although she finished runner-up, the performance propelled her ITF Junior Ranking from 461 to a career-best 357.

While the International Tennis Federation does not maintain official Under-13 rankings, her standing makes her the highest-ranked player globally in her age group.

The achievement follows an extraordinary run in which Srishti won five consecutive ITF junior titles before her Guatemala campaign.

Rising despite challenges

What makes her success even more remarkable is that she competed in only eight ranking events, missing two tournaments due to financial and logistical constraints.

Reflecting on her achievement, Srishti said she was delighted to become the world’s top-ranked player in her age category and credited her coaches, family and support team for the success.

A journey that began at four

A Class 8 student at Baldwin Girls’ High School in Bengaluru, Srishti started training at the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association when she was just four years old.

Her father, Kiran Gopalrajan, who had once dreamed of a sporting career himself, recognised her athletic talent early and encouraged her development. Under coach Dhyan Uthappa at Tennis Advantage Academy, she quickly emerged as one of India’s brightest young talents.

Wimbledon dream awaits

Srishti’s next challenge could be on the grass courts of England. She is expected to compete in a prestigious J300 tournament in the UK ahead of the Wimbledon Junior Championships, subject to gaining entry.

For the young star, the opportunity to compete on the road to Wimbledon represents another major step in a rapidly rising career.
