For many, boarding a flight is routine. For Deepika TC and her mother, it was an emotional milestone that symbolised a journey from hardship to hope. Sharing the moment on Instagram, Deepika wrote, “She gave me wings in life, today I gave her wings in the sky,” a line that struck a chord with thousands across social media.
From village struggles to global glory
Deepika grew up in a small village near the Andhra–Karnataka border, where opportunities were limited and daily life came with challenges. Living with visual impairment, she discovered her calling in blind cricket — a sport that became both an escape and a proving ground for her resilience and talent.
Training on uneven grounds with minimal facilities, she steadily built her game through determination and discipline. Over the years, Deepika emerged not only as a dependable batter but also as a calm and instinctive leader.
Leading India to World Cup triumph
As captain of the Indian women’s blind cricket team, Deepika guided the side to a historic victory at the Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind. The triumph marked a defining moment for women’s para-sports in India, putting blind cricket firmly in the national spotlight.
The team’s consistent performances and tactical maturity throughout the tournament earned widespread praise, inspiring young girls with visual impairments to believe in possibilities beyond social and physical barriers.
Praise from cricketing icons
The achievement also drew admiration from across the cricketing fraternity. Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who recently met the team, congratulated the players and reminded them that success brings greater responsibility to keep striving for excellence.
Deepika later shared how encouragement from icons like Tendulkar boosted the morale of the entire squad and reaffirmed their belief in the journey ahead.
A victory beyond trophies
While the World Cup win brought national recognition, Deepika’s decision to take her mother on her first flight became a deeply personal highlight. The gesture reflected her gratitude for her family’s unwavering support — especially her parents, who stood by her through years of struggle and training.
Today, Deepika TC is more than a world champion. She is a symbol of resilience, leadership and hope, proving that background, disability or circumstance need not define one’s limits. Her story reminds us that the most meaningful victories are often the ones shared with those who believed in us from the very beginning.
