Former batting great and India captain, Rahul Dravid feels that it is crucial to maintain good mental health to perform well in cricket. But that can be a “big challenge” in a “tough game” such as cricket, and players need to know how to strike a balance in all that they do, to overcome the anxiety and stress of hectic schedules and unclear futures, which is characteristic of being in this game.

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has also mentioned the significance of discipline among cricketers during these modern times. A lot has changed nowadays; today cricket has turned out to be a hugely difficult sport and players need to put in a lot of effort to succeed at it. Master Blaster Tendulkar has also emphasized how crucial it is to also maintain discipline in the life of a player. He cited an example while highlighting the importance of preserving equilibrium in life.

He opened up saying that he had failed too, but the right team and the right players had helped him attain a great deal in his life. He also said that young players should never try to find shortcuts. There will be many temptations and challenges strewn along the way, but they should never cheat.

“It is becoming challenging playing all three formats. You’re playing all year, with all the franchise leagues that are involved as well. Mentally, it takes a toll on you, as it does physically. When you combine those two together, it becomes extremely challenging. On the flip side, we get an opportunity to play a sport that we love,” Kagiso Rabada quoted as saying on Betway Insider.

An excellent example of a disciplined player is the greatest batter of the current generation, Virat Kohli. Kohli is one of the most well-organized sportspersons of modern cricket and contains the finest balance of rest and work ethics in his schedule.

Actor Anushka Sharma says that even though she and her husband, Virat, love their own professions, they always find a way to strike an optimal balance between work and family life. She asserts that they balance their priorities to stay healthy and balanced even when schedules grow challenging. Sharma says, “We try to create a proper work-life balance. Both of us really love doing what we do professionally. Our priorities are very clear in life. But at the same time, we try and find time to do something together.

We don’t take our professions or our career too seriously. We don’t draw our identity only from that. We are very simple and like doing normal things. For the world it is about our professions. But in reality it is just normal. It is as normal as anyone would be in a relationship. We don’t see each other in terms of our profession”. She maintains that they never allow their professions to interfere in their personal life, just like any other couple would normally do.

Rahul Dravid says that tough competition and challenging schedules demand players to be watchful of their mental health and wellbeing, hence they need to do everything to balance their work and life.

And Sachin says, “I will say it is important to focus on both the things. It is important to have a balance. When you are on the ground think about it and when you are studying, think about that.”
