Chennai Super Kings has reportedly approached the BCCI over the choice of song and comments made by the stadium DJ during their away match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 5.
The complaint centres around the song “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney”, which was reportedly played just before CSK began their innings. According to reports, the franchise felt the track, often used in internet memes tied to South Indian stereotypes, was inappropriate and not in good taste.
BCCI confirms complaint received
An IPL official is said to have confirmed that the complaint has been received and that the governing council will review the matter.
CSK Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan also reportedly stated that comments were made against certain CSK players during the game. He said DJs usually support the home side, but the atmosphere during the Bengaluru fixture crossed acceptable limits.
Objection over player remarks too
Apart from the song, CSK has objected to remarks allegedly made on the public address system after dismissals of their players during the match. The franchise has requested the cricket board to examine the incident.
Rivalry and fan culture in spotlight
The issue has revived discussions around intense fan rivalry between the two IPL sides. In previous seasons, similar controversies emerged online involving songs and social media banter between supporters of both teams.
Despite the heated rivalry, both teams enjoy massive fan followings across India, especially in the south.
Awaiting official decision
The BCCI is expected to review the matter and decide whether any advisory or further action is required regarding in-stadium conduct and announcements during league matches
