Former Chelsea and Anderlecht footballer Lamisha Musonda has caused concern across the football community after sharing a deeply emotional message on social media, claiming he is battling a serious illness.
In an Instagram post, Musonda said he is suffering from a condition that has no cure and suggested that his time may be limited. He did not disclose the nature of the illness. The former footballer stressed that he is continuing to fight, while asking for prayers and support during what he described as the most difficult period of his life.
“My health is critical,” Musonda says
“Realising that I only have a few days left, I also realise that I had a lot of people by my side and I will always cherish the memories,” Musonda wrote, reflecting on his life and career. He added that the last two years had been particularly challenging and that he has been largely absent from social media due to his health struggles.
He described life as “tough but magnificent”, noting that pain is often invisible to others, and said he remains determined to fight “until my last breath”.
Career across Europe
Musonda retired from professional football in 2020. He began his career at RSC Anderlecht before joining Chelsea FC, and later played in Spain for clubs including Llagostera and Palamós.
He is also the elder brother of Charly Musonda, who featured for Chelsea and played in LaLiga with Real Betis and Levante.
Football world reacts with support
Musonda’s message has prompted an outpouring of support from fans and former teammates, many of whom have shared messages of encouragement and solidarity online. No official medical confirmation has been issued, and the statements reflect Musonda’s own account of his condition.
In his closing words, Musonda said he remains grateful for his family and upbringing, while expressing sadness that he may not be able to personally thank everyone who supported him through life and football.
