India’s triumph over New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 had Gautam Gambhir in an unusually joyful mood. As the Indian team clinched the title with a four-wicket win, celebrations erupted both on the field and off it. In a surprising twist, Gambhir nearly joined in a Bhangra dance—well, almost.
One of the most memorable moments came during an animated conversation between India’s Head Coach and former cricketer-turned-commentator, Navjot Singh Sidhu.
When Ravindra Jadeja struck the winning runs, the Indian camp was filled with emotion. Key players like Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer shared brief reflections in post-match interviews. However, it was the interaction between Gambhir and Sidhu that truly captured the attention of fans.
Known for his serious demeanor, Gambhir surprised everyone by revealing a lighter, more playful side. He even urged Sidhu to recite one of his iconic couplets. Sidhu hesitated but Gambhir playfully initiated the line: “Fann kuchalne ka hunar seekhiye janaab…” (Learn the skill of crushing threats, sir…), to which Sidhu responded with another bold verse: “Saanpo ke darr se jungle nahi chore jaate” (One doesn’t leave the jungle out of fear of snakes).
The couplets emphasized resilience and courage in the face of danger.
The fun didn’t end there. Sidhu encouraged Gambhir to join him in a Bhangra move, promising to create “one more piece of history.” Initially reluctant, Gambhir jokingly replied, “Arre nahi, main chala jaunga” (No way, I’ll leave). Yet, when Sidhu danced to ‘Sauda Khara Khara,’ Gambhir raised a finger, matching the beat in playful solidarity.
