In a bold move signaling a new dawn, the BCCI has unveiled India’s revamped Test team for the upcoming five-match series in England, part of the 2025–27 World Test Championship. Shubman Gill, 25, has been handed the reins as captain, stepping up following Rohit Sharma’s retirement earlier this month.
The historic tour, running from June to August 2025, will see matches hosted at iconic English venues including Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval. With Virat Kohli also recently retiring from the format, the squad marks a generational shift in Indian Test cricket.
Rishabh Pant has been named vice-captain and will share wicketkeeping duties with Dhruv Jurel. The pace battery sees the return of Jasprit Bumrah, who missed recent action due to injury. He’ll join Mohammed Siraj in spearheading the attack, backed by Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Reddy, and Shardul Thakur.
Noteworthy additions include Karun Nair, back after a dominant domestic run, and debutants Sai Sudharsan and Arshdeep Singh. Karun, remembered for his 2016 triple ton against England, earned his place with 1,642 domestic runs across formats in 2024–25.
The spin department will rely on Kuldeep Yadav as the sole specialist, supported by all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar.
Before the main event, India will warm up with two matches against England Lions, starting May 30 in Canterbury.
Test cricket’s new chapter is here, led by youth, form, and fresh ambition.
