Harshit Rana made a memorable debut in India’s T20I series against England, claiming three crucial wickets in the fourth match in Pune. However, his involvement in the game raised eyebrows when he was brought in as a “like-for-like” concussion replacement for Shivam Dube. Dube, who had scored 53, was struck on the helmet by a delivery from Jamie Overton. Although he passed the concussion test, Dube was later run out on the final ball of India’s innings.
Rana’s inclusion in place of Dube caused a stir, with some experts questioning whether it was truly a fair replacement. Dube, a pace all-rounder, was replaced by Rana, a specialist bowler, which many felt was not a balanced swap. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra expressed his disagreement, stating that Ramandeep was a more fitting replacement. Former England captain Michael Vaughan also criticized the decision, pointing out the disparity between a part-time bowling batter and a full-time pacer.
While the debate continued, Harsha Bhogle remarked that India gained a significant advantage with Rana’s entry. Despite the controversy, Rana impressed with his performance, taking wickets and making an impact in the game. He finished with impressive figures of 4-0-33-3, showcasing his skill and earning a potential spot in future matches.
