Aichi-Nagoya: India finished its Asian Games 2026 campaign with 85 medals — 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze — to secure fourth place in the final medal table. The campaign ended on a high on Saturday, with the men’s hockey team defeating Malaysia 5-1 in the final to win India’s 21st gold medal.
India’s final tally was lower than its record-breaking performance at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games, where the contingent won 106 medals, including 28 gold, 38 silver and 40 bronze. However, India’s Aichi-Nagoya campaign featured strong performances across archery, shooting, athletics, boxing, wrestling, cricket, kabaddi and hockey.
The final two days proved particularly productive. India added 11 gold medals during the closing stages, with archery, boxing, wrestling, cricket and hockey making major contributions. The men’s hockey gold also secured India’s direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
India’s final medal tally

A strong finish after a slow start
India’s campaign did not initially suggest that the contingent would reach 85 medals. The country was outside the top 10 of the medal table as recently as Thursday, with only 10 gold medals. The final two days changed the picture considerably, with India adding 11 gold medals across several disciplines.
Archery produced five gold medals, while boxing contributed three. Wrestling and hockey added two golds each, and the men’s cricket team also retained India’s Asian Games T20 title. The women’s cricket team had earlier opened India’s gold-medal account.
The men’s hockey triumph provided the final gold of India’s campaign. Harmanpreet Singh’s team defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final, successfully defending India’s Asian Games title and securing direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
India finishes fourth with 85 medals
India ended the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games with 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals, giving the country 85 podium finishes and fourth place in the final standings.
While the overall haul was 21 medals fewer than the 106 won at Hangzhou in 2022, the final campaign featured significant individual and team achievements across a wide range of sports. The performances of the archers, boxers, wrestlers, shooters, athletes, cricketers and hockey teams were central to India’s late surge.
The 2026 Games therefore ended with India firmly inside the top five, with a medal-winning campaign spread across established Olympic disciplines as well as several emerging sports.
