All captains of the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams are scheduled to meet in Mumbai this Thursday for a vital pre-season briefing. Set to take place at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters at noon, the meeting will be attended by the captains and the managers of all 10 IPL franchises.
The session, which is expected to last for one hour, will provide an overview of the new additions and changes for the upcoming season. It will be followed by sponsor activities at the Taj Hotel, with the entire event spanning four hours. The gathering will culminate in the traditional photo shoot featuring all the captains.
In a break from tradition, this event is being held at the BCCI office, rather than the city where the season opener takes place, suggesting that there may be important updates or announcements beyond the usual rule briefings.
As for the teams, all captains have been confirmed. Recent updates revealed Axar Patel as the new skipper for Delhi Capitals. The remaining nine captains are Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), Pat Cummins (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings), Rajat Patidar (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings), Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals), Ajinkya Rahane (Kolkata Knight Riders), and Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans).
Most of the captains, along with players who participated in the Champions Trophy, have reported to their respective teams. Notably, Pat Cummins arrived in Hyderabad on Sunday, reaffirming his availability for the entire season despite the World Test Championship final, scheduled to take place at Lord’s in June.
The IPL season will kick off at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on March 22, with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Royal Challengers Bangalore.
