The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suspended the remainder of IPL 2025 indefinitely in light of the escalating military conflict between India and Pakistan. The decision, announced on May 9, follows mounting safety concerns and the cancellation of the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala due to air raid alerts in nearby Jammu and Pathankot.

A senior BCCI official, speaking to PTI, said: “It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war.” The high-profile tournament, which was scheduled to conclude on May 25 in Kolkata, has been paused as a gesture of solidarity and precaution.

The official statement released by the BCCI reads:
“The remainder of the ongoing TATA IPL 2025 has been suspended with immediate effect. Further updates regarding the new schedule and venues of the tournament will be announced in due course after a comprehensive assessment of the situation in consultation with relevant authorities and stakeholders.”

The suspension comes as a significant moment in Indian sports, reflecting the gravity of the situation at the border and the growing demand for public safety and national focus during times of conflict. While fans await clarity on whether the tournament will resume later, the BCCI has assured it is closely monitoring developments in coordination with security agencies.

As of now, no resumption date has been provided, and players have been advised to stay in secure accommodations or return to their home bases until further notice.
