With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season set to begin on March 28, Bengaluru authorities have announced a series of new measures at M Chinnaswamy Stadium to ensure smoother crowd management, enhanced safety, and better fan experience.

QR tickets and free Metro travel

In a major shift, entry to the stadium will be completely digital this season, with QR-code-based tickets replacing physical passes. Officials confirmed that tickets must be purchased online and will be non-transferable.

A key highlight is the integration of free Metro travel with match tickets. Fans can use their tickets to access Bengaluru Metro services without purchasing separate passes. Authorities have urged commuters to use MG Road and Cubbon Park Metro stations, with additional trains scheduled on match days.

Controlled entry and holding areas

To manage heavy crowds, most entry points around Queen’s Road will remain closed. Instead, major access will be routed through Cubbon Road, where multiple wide gates have been set up for smoother movement.

Gates will open four hours before match time, and designated holding areas have been created in nearby practice grounds. Spectators will be required to stay in these zones before entering the stadium, ensuring staggered and organised seating.

Officials have emphasised that only ticket holders should approach the venue.

Tight traffic and parking regulations

Strict no-parking rules will be enforced on key roads including Queen’s Road, Cubbon Road, and MG Road. Limited parking has been arranged at select locations such as Garuda Mall, Freedom Park, and nearby school grounds.

Fans will have the option to pre-book parking slots while purchasing tickets. Shuttle services will also be available to ease last-mile connectivity.

Enhanced surveillance and medical readiness

Security has been significantly strengthened, with around 500 CCTV cameras installed in and around the stadium. AI-enabled systems will help monitor crowd density in real time, allowing authorities to respond quickly to potential congestion.

In terms of medical preparedness, nine ambulances will be stationed near the venue, along with four dedicated medical units inside the stadium equipped with doctors and beds.

Focus on safe and responsible cheering

Bengaluru Police have introduced the tagline “Cheer responsibly” as part of their awareness campaign. A final round of mock drills is scheduled before the tournament begins, after which detailed traffic advisories will be issued.

With these measures in place, authorities aim to deliver a safe, organised, and enjoyable IPL experience for thousands of cricket fans in the city.
