India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has opened up about her close relationship with teammate Smriti Mandhana, describing it as a sister-like bond that has played a vital role in her cricketing journey.

A bond beyond cricket

Speaking about their connection, Rodrigues said she feels “very blessed” to have Mandhana in her life, especially given the demanding nature of professional cricket where players spend long periods away from their families.

“It’s a very pure bond, almost like how sisters share a connection,” Rodrigues said. “There’s fun, teasing, and also being there for each other when it matters the most.”

She added that Mandhana has always looked after her like an elder sister, offering emotional support during both highs and lows of her career.

Standing by each other through tough times

Their friendship has been evident in moments off the field as well. When Mandhana’s wedding was reportedly called off last year, Rodrigues chose to give up her Big Bash League contract to stand by her teammate, highlighting the depth of their bond.

Earlier this year, the two faced off in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 final, where Mandhana’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Rodrigues’ Delhi Capitals. Despite the heartbreak of finishing runners-up again, Mandhana was among the first to console Rodrigues after the match.

Key contributors to World Cup success

Both players were instrumental in India’s historic 2025 Women’s World Cup triumph. Mandhana scored 434 runs at an average of 54.25, while Rodrigues contributed 292 runs at an impressive average of 58.40, underlining their importance to the team.

Eyes set on T20 World Cup glory

With the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled in England this June, Rodrigues expressed confidence in India’s chances of securing another major title.

“We’ve got the 50-over one, and now it’s time to get the T20 one,” she said. “The expectations are higher now, but as a team, we’re focused on improving and giving our best.”

Their strong camaraderie continues to inspire fans, reflecting how personal bonds can translate into collective success on the field.
