New Delhi: Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has dismissed concerns over Virat Kohli’s two-month break from competitive cricket, backing the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star to make an immediate impact in the Indian Premier League 2026 season.

Kohli last played during the ODI series against New Zealand in January and will return to action when IPL 2026 begins later this month.

‘Break will benefit Kohli’

Kaif believes the gap will actually work in Kohli’s favour, allowing him to return refreshed rather than rusty.

“It will not make a difference. In fact, it will benefit him as he is coming from a break with a fresh mind,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.

He added that Kohli has a proven ability to switch formats seamlessly, something only a few elite players can manage consistently.

Experience of adapting across formats

Kaif pointed out that Kohli has handled similar transitions throughout his career, including during his time in international cricket.

“Making that switch is normal for him. It would be difficult for some other batter, but not for Virat,” he noted.

He also highlighted Kohli’s aggressive approach in white-ball cricket in recent times, with improved strike rates and a more attacking mindset.

Motivation higher than ever

According to Kaif, Kohli is unlikely to show any drop in intensity, especially with RCB entering the season as defending champions.

“Kohli always starts from zero. He will not accept any complacency. If someone is not putting in the effort, he will be the first to call it out,” Kaif said.

He added that Kohli’s presence ensures high standards within the squad, keeping teammates on their toes throughout the campaign.

Key role in RCB’s title defence

Kohli was instrumental in RCB’s historic IPL 2025 title win, scoring 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75 and a strike rate of 144.71.

His consistency and leadership will once again be crucial as the team looks to defend its crown.

Conclusion: No signs of slowdown

While breaks can sometimes disrupt a player’s rhythm, experts believe Kohli’s experience, fitness, and mental strength will ensure a smooth return.

With hunger, form, and motivation on his side, Kohli is expected to hit the ground running and remain central to RCB’s IPL 2026 campaign
