K’taka lead Bangladesh A by 5 runs on opening day

Mysuru: Karnataka were leading by five runs in the first innings after bowling Bangladesh ‘A’ out for 158 on Day 1 of the three-day match in Mysore. With Shishir Bhavane (55*) and Suchith J (14*) in the middle, the hosts were 163 for six at stumps on Tuesday evening.


Earlier, after electing to bat at the SDNRW Ground, Bangladesh ‘A’ were left reeling on one for the lost of two wickets in the morning. Rony Talukdar was sent back by M Prasidh while HS Sharath accounted for Mominul Haque. 26 runs later, Prasidh bowled Anamul Haque and also claimed Soumya Sarkar later in the over to push the visitors on the back-foot. He then followed up with the wicket of Nasir Hossain, leaving the opposition on 41 for five.

Litton Das toiled to hold the innings together en route to a half-century while Shuvagata Hom pitched in with a useful 55 as the rest of the line-up crumbled.

While Suchith claimed Das, Hom was trapped lbw by Udit Patel. Prasidh finished with five for 49 while Shreyas Gopal chipped in with one wicket as Karnataka bowled Bangladesh ‘A’ out in 38.4 overs.

The hosts then lost Mayank Agarwal with 28 runs on the board. Saqlain Sajib, who claimed the opener, also picked the key wickets of Robin Uthappa and CM Gautam. Hom, who sent back R Samarth also accounted for Abhishek Reddy and Gopal later in the innings. However, Bhavane anchored the home team past the visitors’ total and was batting with Suchith when the play was called off for the day.
