London: Manchester Super Giants (MSG) produced a dramatic finish at Lord’s to lift their maiden men’s Hundred title, edging past Trent Rockets by five wickets in a thrilling final.

Seifert sets up stunning chase

Asked to bat first, Trent Rockets posted 158/8, setting MSG a challenging target in the final.

Manchester responded with an explosive start, led by opener Tim Seifert. The New Zealand batter played a fluent innings of 72 from just 38 balls, giving his side the momentum it needed during the chase.

MSG kept themselves in contention despite losing wickets, with the match going down to the final deliveries.

Dawson delivers under pressure

With Manchester needing only three runs from the final three deliveries, Liam Dawson produced the decisive moment.

The experienced all-rounder smashed a six to take MSG across the finish line, sealing a memorable five-wicket victory and sparking celebrations at Lord’s.

The triumph was particularly significant for owner Sanjiv Goenka, who finally saw one of his cricket franchises win a major tournament. Goenka also co-owns IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants.

Buttler leads historic campaign

The team, formerly known as Manchester Originals, was renamed Manchester Super Giants after Goenka became its new owner this season.

Captain Jos Buttler played an important role throughout the campaign and was visibly emotional after the victory. He described the triumph as a mixture of excitement, euphoria and relief after the tense final moments.

MSG’s title came after a remarkable turnaround, with the team winning five consecutive matches to reach the decisive stage. Goenka praised the entire squad, highlighting Seifert’s innings, Noor Ahmad’s bowling and Buttler’s leadership.

For Manchester Super Giants, their first season ended in the best possible way — with a trophy and a historic night at Lord’s.
