Senior Mizoram cricketer K Lalremruata passed away on Thursday after collapsing during an ongoing cricket match, sending shockwaves through the state’s sporting fraternity. He was 38.
The incident occurred during the Khaled Memorial Second Division Screening Tournament when Lalremruata was returning to the pavilion after batting. According to reports, he complained of chest pain before suddenly collapsing on the field. Despite immediate efforts by those present, he could not be revived.
Sudden collapse during match
Eyewitnesses said Lalremruata appeared uncomfortable while walking back to the pavilion and soon lost consciousness. Medical assistance was rushed in, but his condition deteriorated rapidly. Local media reported that he passed out on the ground and was later declared dead.
The Cricket Association of Mizoram later confirmed that Lalremruata died due to a stroke. In a statement, the association described his passing as a “tragic loss for Mizoram cricket” and expressed deep condolences to his family.
A respected name in Mizoram cricket
Lalremruata was a familiar figure in domestic cricket in the state. He represented Mizoram twice in the Ranji Trophy and featured in seven matches of the Syed Mustaq Ali Trophy. Known for his commitment and experience, he played a key role in mentoring younger players at the local level.
Teammates and officials described him as disciplined, soft-spoken and deeply passionate about the sport.

Mizoram’s Sports and Youth Services Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar also mourned Lalremruata’s death. He stated that the cricketer experienced breathing difficulties during the match before collapsing.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of K Lalremruata, who collapsed during a cricket match today,” Hmar said. “My heartfelt condolences go out to his bereaved family, friends, and members of the sporting fraternity during this difficult time.”
The Cricket Association of Mizoram added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. May God comfort them as they navigate this great loss.”
