Kochi: Mumbai Indians have completed their squad for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 season after signing six players at the auction held in Kochi on Wednesday, October 28. The two-time champions strengthened their domestic options by adding Shweta Sehrawat, Disha Kasat, Latika Inamdar, Bharti Rawal, Sanika Chalke and Akshita Bhagat to their squad.

Mumbai Indians entered the auction with a purse of ₹90 lakh, the smallest among the five franchises. They spent ₹70 lakh on the six new signings and completed their squad with 18 players, combining their established international stars with Indian talent. The franchise had also acquired United States international Tara Norris from UP Warriorz through a trade ahead of the auction.

Mumbai Indians’ six auction signings

Shweta Sehrawat was Mumbai Indians’ most expensive purchase at the auction, joining the franchise for ₹20 lakh. The Indian batter previously represented UP Warriorz and provides another option for the team’s batting line-up.

The franchise also signed five players for ₹10 lakh each. The additions include batter Disha Kasat, wicketkeeper-batter Latika Inamdar, spinner Bharti Rawal, batter Sanika Chalke and all-rounder Akshita Bhagat.

The six signings are:

  • Shweta Sehrawat — ₹20 lakh
  • Disha Kasat — ₹10 lakh
  • Latika Inamdar — ₹10 lakh
  • Bharti Rawal — ₹10 lakh
  • Sanika Chalke — ₹10 lakh
  • Akshita Bhagat — ₹10 lakh

With no overseas slots available under their squad allocation, Mumbai Indians focused entirely on Indian players during the auction. The signings give the team additional options as it looks to strengthen its depth across batting, wicketkeeping, spin bowling and all-rounder roles.

Experienced core led by Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur will remain central to Mumbai Indians’ plans for the upcoming season. The India captain leads a group that includes experienced overseas players such as New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr, West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews, England all-rounder Natalie Sciver-Brunt and Australia’s Nicola Carey.

South African fast bowler Shabnim Ismail adds international pace-bowling experience, while Tara Norris provides another overseas bowling option after her move from UP Warriorz. The squad also includes Indian players Amanjot Kaur, Sajeevan Sajana, Sanskriti Gupta and Vaishnavi Sharma, who were retained by the franchise.

Mumbai Indians will look to combine this experience with contributions from their new signings. Sehrawat’s addition gives the side another batting option, while Kasat and Chalke offer further domestic batting depth. Inamdar strengthens the wicketkeeping group, and Rawal and Bhagat add options in bowling and all-rounder roles.

Mumbai Indians aim to strengthen their WPL campaign

Mumbai Indians won the WPL title in 2023 and 2025, but failed to qualify for the playoffs in the 2026 season. The franchise will therefore be looking to build a more competitive campaign with its retained players and new additions.

The auction strategy was shaped by a limited purse and the absence of available overseas slots. Rather than pursue expensive international signings, Mumbai Indians used their remaining budget to add six Indian players, including five at their base price of ₹10 lakh.

The squad now offers a blend of international experience, established Indian players and new domestic recruits. The challenge will be to find the right balance in the playing XI and ensure that the new additions contribute consistently throughout the tournament.

The WPL 2027 season is scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7, 2027. Mumbai Indians will aim to use the coming months to prepare their squad and return to contention for the title.
