India batter Jemimah Rodrigues recently shared a shocking yet humorous childhood memory, revealing how she once fell from the first floor of an auditorium while playing as an eight-year-old — leaving her cousins convinced she had died.
Speaking on Breakfast With Champions, Jemimah recalled the incident from a church programme where children were playing outside the auditorium during the event.
A fall that left everyone stunned
Jemimah said she and her cousins were playing a game involving footwear when one of them threw a pair of crocs across to the other side. Determined to retrieve it, she volunteered to jump across.
“I said I would get it, like a full hero,” she laughed. “But I fell from the first floor.”
In a stroke of luck, Jemimah landed on someone who was seated below, breaking her fall and escaping without injury. However, the moment was terrifying for her cousins. “They thought I died,” she said, recalling how the adults rushed in panic before realising she was unharmed.
Escaping without injury
Despite the height of the fall, Jemimah said she walked away unscathed, calling it one of those childhood moments that could have ended very differently. The anecdote offered fans a glimpse into her fearless and adventurous early years.
From childhood scares to World Cup glory
Jemimah has since gone on to script some of Indian cricket’s biggest moments. She played a crucial role in India’s historic World Cup triumph, scoring a match-winning unbeaten century against Australia in the semi-final to power a record chase.
Advice that shaped her batting
During the same interaction, Jemimah also credited her father for shaping her batting approach. She revealed that while she initially tried to imitate power-hitters in T20 cricket, her father advised her to focus on smart shot placement instead.
“He always told me I could score runs by finding gaps,” Jemimah said, adding that the guidance helped her become a more effective and composed batter across formats.
The story, blending childhood fear with humour, has resonated widely with fans — reminding many that even sporting stars once had heart-stopping moments growing up.
