Mumbai: Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar has provided a reassuring update on star batter Virat Kohli after their win over Mumbai Indians, stating that the veteran appears to be “okay” despite concerns over a possible injury.
The update came after Kohli was seen off the field during parts of the match at the Wankhede Stadium, sparking speculation about his fitness. However, Patidar downplayed fears, indicating that there was no immediate cause for concern.
Kohli’s fitness not a major concern
Speaking after the match, Patidar said he did not have complete clarity on Kohli’s condition but believed the situation was not serious.
“I do not know yet, but I feel that he is okay right now,” he said, offering a brief but positive update.
Kohli’s absence from the field, where he was spotted wearing a jacket, had raised eyebrows among fans, especially given his importance to the team’s campaign in the Indian Premier League.
RCB return to winning ways
After a setback against Rajasthan Royals, RCB bounced back strongly with an 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians in a high-scoring encounter.
RCB posted a formidable total of 240/4, powered by half-centuries from Phil Salt, Kohli and Patidar. Their aggressive start put the team in control early in the innings.
In response, Mumbai Indians fought hard, finishing at 222/5. Sherfane Rutherford was the standout performer for MI, smashing an unbeaten 71 off just 31 balls, including nine sixes and a four. Despite his efforts, MI fell short by 18 runs.
Patidar highlights team clarity and atmosphere
Patidar credited the team’s improved performance to clarity in roles within the batting line-up. He also spoke about the unique atmosphere at the Wankhede Stadium.
“Whenever we come here in Mumbai, especially at this ground, the atmosphere and the fans—it is a different feeling. The way Virat Bhai and Salt started the innings kept us in the driving seat,” he said.
He added that contributions from multiple players, including himself and Tim David, reflected a complete team effort.
Patidar’s form and batting approach
The RCB skipper has been in sensational form this season. He is currently among the top performers, showcasing his ability to dominate both spin and pace bowling.
Interestingly, Patidar revealed that while he is often associated with playing spin well, he personally enjoys facing pace more.
“To be honest, people used to say that I love playing spin, but I would say I love playing pace. This track is very good for fast bowling, and I enjoy it,” he explained.
His numbers underline his consistency. Patidar has scored 195 runs in four innings at an average of 65.00 and a strike rate of 214.28, including two half-centuries. He is also among the leading six-hitters this season, alongside Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
Conclusion
RCB’s victory over Mumbai Indians not only boosts their campaign but also highlights their strong batting depth. While concerns around Virat Kohli’s fitness briefly surfaced, Patidar’s update has provided reassurance to fans.
As the tournament progresses, RCB will hope to maintain momentum while ensuring their key players remain fit, with Kohli’s role continuing to be central to their ambitions.
