Spanish tennis star Paula Badosa has showered praise on India’s rising talent Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, suggesting that the country may have found its next major tennis sensation.

Both players are competing in the fourth season of the World Tennis League (WTL), currently underway at the SM Krishna Tennis Stadium, where they are representing the AOS Eagles.

Badosa impressed by Shrivalli’s power and mindset

The 28-year-old Badosa, who achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 2 on the WTA Tour in 2022, said she was immediately struck by the Indian youngster’s fearless approach and strong serve.

“India, you have a future star here. Since the first day I hit with her, I have been impressed with her serve and aggressive game,” Badosa said, underlining Shrivalli’s potential to compete at the highest level.

Such praise from a player of Badosa’s stature has created excitement among Indian tennis followers, particularly as the WTL offers young players rare exposure to elite international competition.

Who is Shrivalli Bhamidipaty?

Shrivalli Bhamidipaty is widely regarded as one of India’s most promising women’s tennis players on the professional circuit. She reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 300 in October 2024 and achieved her best doubles ranking of No. 266 in June 2025.

She has won two ITF singles titles and six ITF doubles titles so far, with career prize money exceeding USD 69,000. Shrivalli has also made a strong impact in team events, delivering a standout performance on her Billie Jean King Cup debut in April 2025, where she won all five of her singles matches and helped India qualify for the World Group play-offs.

On the domestic circuit, she has captured the Fenesta Open National Championship and other ITF titles, steadily building a reputation for consistency and competitive grit.

Badosa eyes resurgence after injury setbacks

For Badosa, 2025 marked a return to form after injury troubles. Her run to the Australian Open semifinals — including a notable win over Coco Gauff — propelled her back into the world’s top ranks. Currently placed at No. 25, she is using platforms like the WTL to regain momentum ahead of the 2026 season.

As Bengaluru hosts world-class talent this week, Badosa’s endorsement has added to the spotlight on Shrivalli, reinforcing hopes of a bright future for Indian women’s tennis.
