Amaravati: The reigning Women’s T20 Blind Cricket World Cup Champions received a hero’s welcome as they met Power Star Shri Pawan Kalyan, Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, earlier today. The interaction became a rare blend of fan-girl excitement, sporting pride, and powerful advocacy for disability-inclusive sports development in India.

A star-struck moment for World Cup champions

Pawan Kalyan, one of India’s most admired cine icons and a respected political leader, welcomed the players with warmth and heartfelt appreciation. He spent time listening to their personal journeys — the challenges of visual impairment, the resilience that shaped their careers, and the pride with which they brought home the World Cup.

The atmosphere was filled with joy as players met one of their favourite stars, whose dual identity as actor and Deputy Chief Minister made the meeting deeply meaningful.

A generous gesture of recognition

In a remarkable act of appreciation, Shri Pawan Kalyan gifted ₹5 lakh to each player from his personal funds, acknowledging their dedication, discipline, and historic achievement. His gesture was met with emotional gratitude from the team.

Players highlight key needs and aspirations

The meeting also became a productive platform for advocacy.
Team captain Deepika appealed for improved infrastructure in her village, emphasising the need for better roads and basic amenities.

Ajay Kumar Reddy, Arjuna Awardee and former captain of the Indian Men’s Blind Cricket Team, called for urgent state-level support — including employment opportunities, welfare assistance, and recognition for men’s blind cricketers from Andhra Pradesh.

Support assured for Samarthanam and CABI

Dr Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, Founding Trustee of Samarthanam and Chairman of the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI), accompanied the team.
Pawan Kalyan praised Dr Mahantesh’s decades-long work in disability empowerment, describing it as “nation-building in its truest form.”

He assured full support to Samarthanam and CABI and directed his office to coordinate with both organisations to act on the players’ requests promptly.

A commitment to national-level advocacy

In a powerful pledge, Pawan Kalyan announced that he would personally speak to Chief Ministers of various states to ensure:
• structured welfare for blind cricketers
• employment opportunities
• financial support
• recognition of sporting achievements

This commitment marks a significant step toward strengthening the ecosystem of blind cricket across India.

A day of pride and inspiration

The champions expressed their gratitude, marking the day as one of the most memorable moments of their careers. The interaction reaffirmed national pride, disability inclusion, and the growing recognition of blind cricket as a sport of excellence.
