New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu congratulated Indian athletes after a successful Day 8 at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, with messages directed at the kabaddi teams and several individual medallists.
India secured gold medals in both the men’s and women’s kabaddi events on September 26. The women’s team defeated Iran 37-34 in the final, while the men’s team also beat Iran 40-34 to retain the Asian Games title.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated both kabaddi teams, while also praising Prachi Choudhary, Tajinderpal Singh Toor and other Indian athletes who won medals during the day’s competition.
PM Modi congratulates men’s kabaddi team
Prime Minister Modi congratulated the Indian men’s kabaddi team after it retained the Asian Games gold medal.
In a post shared by the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi praised the team’s determination and said its success could motivate upcoming players. He also conveyed his best wishes to the players for their future competitions.
The men’s kabaddi team defeated Iran 40-34 in the final to successfully defend its Asian Games title. The result added another gold medal to India’s Day 8 campaign.
The men’s team had progressed through the competition with a series of strong performances before reaching the final against Iran.
Women’s kabaddi team receives praise
Modi also congratulated India’s women’s kabaddi team after its gold-medal victory over Iran.
The Indian women’s team won a closely contested final 37-34. The victory allowed India to retain the women’s kabaddi title at the Asian Games.
In his message, Modi highlighted the team’s courage, composure and teamwork during the final and wished the players continued success.
President Droupadi Murmu also congratulated the women’s kabaddi team. The President’s official account praised the Indian players for successfully defending their title and acknowledged their performance in a closely fought final.
The two kabaddi gold medals became among India’s major achievements on Day 8 of the continental sporting event.
Prachi Choudhary wins 400m bronze
Prime Minister Modi also congratulated Prachi Choudhary after she won the bronze medal in the women’s 400m event.
Modi described her performance as an excellent run that secured India a place on the podium and wished her success in her future sporting endeavours.
The medal added to India’s athletics haul at the Aichi-Nagoya Games.
Choudhary’s podium finish came during a day in which Indian athletes competed across several track and field events, contributing to the country’s growing medal tally.
Toor wins silver in men’s shot put
Tajinderpal Singh Toor also received congratulations from Prime Minister Modi after securing silver in the men’s shot put.
Modi praised Toor’s performance and highlighted his focus and perseverance. The Prime Minister also noted that the medal added to Toor’s record of Asian Games achievements.
Toor has previously won Asian Games gold in the men’s shot put and his latest silver added another medal to his international record.
The performance was also significant for India’s athletics campaign, with the country continuing to collect medals in field events at the Games.
President Murmu congratulates squash medallists
President Murmu also extended her congratulations to Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar after the Indian pair won bronze in the mixed doubles squash event.
The President’s official account praised their partnership and perseverance following their podium finish at the Asian Games.
The bronze medal added to India’s squash success on Day 8. Indian players Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh also reached their respective singles finals, assuring India of further medals in the discipline.
The squash performances have therefore been an important part of India’s campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
Shooting team receives congratulations
President Murmu also congratulated Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa Vinod Kochalumkal and Ashi Chouksey after the Indian trio won silver in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions team event.
The three shooters finished with the silver medal, adding another podium finish for India in shooting. Murmu highlighted the role of teamwork and determination in their performance.
Shooting has contributed several medals to India’s Asian Games campaign, with Indian shooters competing across individual and team events.
