Mumbai: Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw and his fiancée Akriti Agarwal have decided to part ways around six months after announcing their engagement, with Agarwal confirming the separation in a social media statement on Thursday.
Agarwal, a social media personality and actress, said the decision was mutual and followed discussions about their different goals and circumstances for the future. She also urged people to respect their privacy and avoid speculation about the reasons behind their separation.
The announcement comes months after Shaw and Agarwal publicly shared their engagement in March, with the cricketer posting romantic photographs from the occasion.
Akriti Agarwal confirms separation
Agarwal confirmed the couple’s decision in a statement shared on Instagram.
She said the two had decided to go their separate ways after recognising that their future goals and circumstances were different.
“With a heavy heart, I would like to share that my fiance and I have decided to part ways due to different goals and circumstances for our future,” Agarwal wrote.
She added that the couple continued to love and care for each other but had accepted that their paths were no longer meant to remain together.
Agarwal also referred to their responsibilities and circumstances before describing the decision as mutual.
“I genuinely wish nothing but the best, peace, and happiness for both of us as we move forward,” she wrote.
Agarwal asks fans to respect their privacy
While confirming the separation, Agarwal did not provide further details about the specific circumstances that led to the decision.
Instead, she asked people not to speculate or make assumptions about the reasons behind the couple’s decision.
“I kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this difficult time and refrain from speculating or making assumptions about the reasons behind our decision,” she added.
Her statement makes it clear that the separation was presented as a mutual decision, while the couple has chosen not to publicly discuss further personal details.
Shaw and Agarwal announced engagement in March
Shaw and Agarwal announced their engagement on March 8.
The Indian batter shared a series of photographs from the occasion, including one in which he was seen going down on one knee while proposing to Agarwal.
Another photograph showed the couple displaying their engagement rings.
Shaw had accompanied the pictures with a romantic caption referencing his cricket career and their relationship.
“From sixes on the field to a lifetime of hits off it. She’s my perfect innings!” he wrote.
The engagement had marked a public milestone in the couple’s relationship, with the photographs receiving considerable attention from Shaw’s followers.
