At the 1st International Olympic Research Conference on Wednesday, Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha spoke passionately about India’s ambition to host the 2026 Olympic Games and the nation’s broader goals for holistic development through sport.
The celebrated track and field legend shared insights into the transformative impact hosting the Games could have on the country, not just in terms of improved sporting standards but also through cultural exchange and the promotion of Olympic values. “India’s engagement with the Olympic movement is at a transformative moment, one that goes beyond competitive sports to embrace the true spirit of Olympism — promoting peace, education, and cultural exchange through sports,” Usha said.
Highlighting the significance of the conference, Usha emphasized the country’s preparation not only in terms of infrastructure but also intellectual and research capabilities, as India aims to host the 2036 Olympics. “This gathering sends a strong message to the international sporting community that India is committed to contributing meaningfully to the global Olympic movement through research, innovation, and knowledge exchange,” she added.
IOA Vice President Ajay Patel also spoke about the role of research in shaping the future of sports, noting the conference’s focus on critical issues such as sustainable mega events and technological advancements.
The four-day event underscored India’s growing influence in global sports and its commitment to empowering the nation through sporting excellence.
