Mumbai: Ranveer Singh once again showcased his intense dedication to method acting by gaining 10 kg in just six weeks for his role in Dhurandhar: The Revenge, according to co-actor and fitness coach Mustafa Ahmed.
In an exclusive interaction, Mustafa revealed the rigorous diet, training, and discipline that helped Ranveer transform his physique to portray the brutal character Hamza Ali Mazari on screen.
Rapid transformation for a demanding role
Ranveer reportedly weighed around 76–77 kg before beginning preparation. Within six weeks, he bulked up to nearly 87–88 kg to suit the physical demands of the role.
The transformation came under tight timelines set by director Aditya Dhar, who wanted the actor to look more imposing and intense for the film.
High-calorie diet and intense training
To achieve the dramatic weight gain, Ranveer followed a strict and heavy diet plan:
- Daily calorie intake: 3,600–4,000 calories
- Around 240 grams of protein per day
- Two protein shakes contributing 1,200–1,500 calories
- Meals rich in chicken, rice, and red meat like mutton
Mustafa noted that Ranveer often consumed even more food than him and approached training with exceptional discipline.
“He runs like a machine,” he said, highlighting the actor’s relentless work ethic.
Training with purpose, not just aesthetics
What set Ranveer apart, according to Mustafa, was his approach to fitness as part of character building rather than just physical appearance.
“He does weight training to help his breathing and build character. Actors usually train to look good, but he does it as an artist,” Mustafa explained.
This method helped Ranveer not only gain size but also bring authenticity and physical intensity to his role.
Gruelling shoot schedules
The film’s demanding schedule added another layer of challenge. Ranveer and Mustafa often worked 16–18 hours a day, combining long shooting hours with intense rehearsals.
One of the most physically taxing sequences — a wrestling scene between their characters — required:
- 12 hours of shooting
- 6 hours of rehearsal daily
- Four days of continuous preparation
The sequence was shot in Kasauli, adding travel fatigue to an already exhausting routine.
Weight gain followed by controlled loss
Interestingly, after bulking up, both actors had to shed excess weight while maintaining a fit and agile look to portray younger versions of their characters.
This required careful planning to ensure they retained muscle while losing fat — a process Mustafa said Ranveer handled intelligently.
A history of physical transformations
This is not the first time Ranveer has undergone drastic body changes for roles. He previously bulked up for Padmaavat and slimmed down significantly for Gully Boy, showcasing his versatility and commitment.
Conclusion
Ranveer Singh’s transformation for Dhurandhar: The Revenge underlines his reputation as one of Bollywood’s most dedicated performers. With extreme discipline, a rigorous diet, and relentless training, he continues to push physical limits to bring authenticity to his characters.
