Royal Challengers Bengaluru faced a tense moment during their IPL 2026 clash against Delhi Capitals after on-field umpires issued two warnings for delaying the start of overs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

The repeated warnings placed RCB captain Rajat Patidar under pressure, as one more violation could have led to a five-run penalty under match regulations.

Why the warning was issued

According to IPL playing conditions, teams are expected to begin the next over within 60 seconds of the previous over ending. However, RCB reportedly took over 70 seconds on multiple occasions, prompting umpires to intervene.

A further delay would have handed Delhi Capitals five additional runs, a significant boost in a closely contested chase.

Salt shines with the bat

Earlier, Delhi skipper Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first.

RCB openers Virat Kohli and Phil Salt gave the hosts another aggressive start, adding 52 runs. Kohli was dismissed for 19, while Salt continued his fine form with a brisk 63 off 38 balls.

Delhi fight back strongly

The middle order struggled to accelerate, with only Tim David making a useful contribution beyond 20 runs.

Lungi Ngidi, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel claimed two wickets each as Delhi restricted RCB to 175/8.

Capitals in control during chase

At one stage in the chase, Delhi reached 130/3 after 15 overs, needing 46 runs from the final five overs with Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs at the crease.

The visitors appeared favourites as pressure mounted on RCB.
