Thiruvananthapuram: Delhi batsman Rishabh Pant completed his century in just 48 deliveries to smash the record of quickest century in the Ranji Trophy domestic cricket tournament, during his side’s clash against Jharkhand here on Tuesday.

The left-hander, former vice-captain of national Under-19 team, also bettered the record in first-class cricket during Delhi’s second innings after they were asked to follow-on. The 19-year-old innings ended on 135 off just 67 balls, including eight fours and 13 sixes, as the capital side declared their second innings closed at 480 for six.

Pant also had scored 117 in the first innings of Delhi.

The earlier 56-ball century record was held jointly by Assamese Rajesh Borah in 1987-88 Ranji Trophy match against Tripura and Tamil Nadu’s V.B. Chandrasekhar in 1988-89 Irani Trophy contest against the Rest of India.
