Rohit Sharma returns to action in warm-up match ahead of Adelaide Test

Rohit Sharma made his on-field return during the warm-up game against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI after missing the first Test in Perth due to paternity leave. Having recently welcomed a baby boy, Rohit joined the Indian team mid-series, where India leads the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-0.

The pink-ball practice match in Canberra was reduced to a single day under lights due to rain washing out the first day. Rohit, instead of opening, allowed KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal to continue their effective partnership from the Perth Test. Batting at number four, he managed only 3 runs off 11 deliveries. Despite his dismissal, India clinched a six-wicket win.

Post-match batting continued for pink-ball practice. Sarfaraz Khan, batting at number eight, was dismissed for just one run, prompting a visibly disappointed Rohit to place his hand on his face, a moment that sparked light-hearted commentary.

Rohit’s recent form has been a concern, with just 91 runs across six innings in the Test series against New Zealand. The upcoming Adelaide Test provides him a crucial opportunity to regain form and contribute significantly.

India now gears up for the high-stakes day-night Test with hopes pinned on Rohit’s experience to bolster their performance.
