A brief security breach involving Indian batting star Rohit Sharma outside the team hotel in Indore during the third ODI against New Zealand has drawn national attention, after it emerged that the woman involved acted out of desperation to seek help for her critically ill daughter.

A video that went viral on social media showed a woman breaching the security cordon and briefly grabbing Rohit Sharma’s arm as he was entering the team hotel. The cricketer appeared visibly startled before security personnel escorted him safely indoors.
The incident raised immediate concerns about player safety and crowd control during international fixtures, prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to review and strengthen security arrangements.
Mother explains her desperation
The woman was later identified as Sarita Sharma, who released a video explaining her actions. Fighting back emotion, she said her daughter, Anika, is suffering from a rare and serious illness and urgently requires a life-saving injection costing ₹9 crore, which must be imported from the United States.
“We have managed to collect around ₹4.1 crore through small donation camps, but time is running out,” she said, adding that her decision to approach the cricketer was driven by sheer helplessness.
Sarita said she had been trying to reach out to prominent cricketers, including Virat Kohli, hoping for support, given their known involvement in charitable causes for children.
“I was not there for selfies or publicity. I only want to save my child’s life,” she said, apologising to Rohit Sharma, the authorities, and security personnel for the distress caused.

The episode triggered a wave of mixed reactions on social media. While many expressed sympathy for a mother’s anguish and praised the community efforts in Indore to raise funds, others cautioned that security protocols for sportspersons cannot be compromised.
