India’s star batter Sanju Samson has etched his name in the record books after becoming the player with the most sixes in a single edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The 31-year-old right-handed batter achieved the milestone during the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium, where he smashed eight towering sixes in a sensational innings.

With that effort, Samson took his tournament tally to 24 sixes, surpassing the previous record and becoming the most destructive hitter in a single edition of the global T20 event.

Record-breaking tournament for Samson

Samson’s remarkable campaign saw him score 321 runs in five matches, playing a decisive role in India’s successful defence of the T20 World Cup title.

Earlier in the tournament, during the semi-final against England on March 5, Samson had already broken Rohit Sharma’s record for the most sixes hit by an Indian batter in a single T20 World Cup edition.

His aggressive batting approach and ability to clear the boundary consistently proved crucial for India during the knockout stages.

Key role in India’s historic triumph

Samson’s powerful batting was a defining factor in India’s dominant campaign.

In the final against New Zealand, he scored a brilliant 89, helping India post a massive 255/5, the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final.

India’s bowlers later completed the job by dismissing New Zealand for 159, sealing a 96-run victory and securing the nation’s third T20 World Cup title.

Samson’s extraordinary performances throughout the tournament not only helped India lift the trophy but also cemented his status as one of the most impactful players of the competition.
