Bhopal: Punjab Kings cricketer Shashank Singh and his father, retired IPS officer Shailesh Singh, have been booked by the police in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal over allegations of assaulting and verbally abusing a cook employed at their residence.

The case was registered at Ratibad police station following a complaint filed by the victim, identified as Vipendra Singh Tomar. According to the police, an FIR has been lodged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and an investigation is currently underway.

Allegations by the complainant

In his written complaint, Vipendra Singh Tomar stated that he was brought from Rewa to Bhopal through an acquaintance with the promise of employment at the Nilbad bungalow of Shailesh Singh. He was allegedly offered a monthly salary of Rs 15,000 along with free food and accommodation, and was also assured assistance in securing a government job in the future.

However, the complainant alleged that shortly after joining work, he was subjected to mental harassment and verbal abuse. He claimed that tensions escalated over dissatisfaction with the food he prepared.

“When I expressed my desire to leave the job and return home due to the abusive environment, they became angry,” the complainant stated.

Assault and confinement claims

The cook further alleged that the situation worsened when he attempted to quit. According to his statement, his mobile phone was forcibly taken away to prevent him from contacting others, and he was pressured to continue working.

Fearing for his safety, the complainant said he locked himself inside a room. However, he alleged that Shashank Singh, his father, and their driver forcibly entered the room and assaulted him.

He claimed that he sustained injuries during the incident.

Police action and investigation

Following the complaint, the police conducted a medical examination of the victim, which reportedly confirmed visible injury marks on his face and body.

Based on the complaint and medical evidence, Ratibad police registered an FIR against Shashank Singh, Shailesh Singh, and a third individual.

The case has been filed under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 296(B) related to obscene acts and verbal abuse, Section 115(2) for voluntarily causing hurt or assault, and Section 3(5) concerning joint criminal liability.

Police officials stated that further investigation is ongoing and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.
