Ahmedabad: Shivam Dube produced a scintillating all-round performance to power India to a 17-run win over the Netherlands national cricket team in their fourth Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Wednesday (February 18).
Playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Dube smashed 66 runs off just 31 balls and later chipped in with the ball, returning figures of 2 for 35 in three overs for the India national cricket team led by Suryakumar Yadav.
His match-winning display placed him in an elite club of Indian cricketers who have scored a half-century and taken at least one wicket in the same T20 World Cup match.
Dube shines with bat and ball
Batting in the middle order, Dube launched a counter-attack that lifted India to a competitive total. His 66 came at a strike rate of over 200 and included a flurry of boundaries and towering sixes, putting the Netherlands bowlers under immense pressure.
Defending 194, Dube then made an impact with the ball at crucial stages of the innings. He claimed his first wicket in the 14th over when Dutch all-rounder Bas de Leede was caught by Varun Chakaravarthy on the final delivery of the over.
His second scalp came in the 20th over when Zach Lion-Cachet was caught by Washington Sundar, effectively sealing the contest for India.
The all-round contribution ensured India registered a 17-run victory and strengthened their position in Group A.
Third Indian to achieve rare double
With this performance, Dube became only the third Indian cricketer to score a fifty and pick up a wicket in the same T20 World Cup match, joining Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya.
Kohli first achieved the feat during the 2012 T20 World Cup against Pakistan in Colombo, where he scored 78 not out and claimed one wicket. He repeated the achievement in the 2016 edition, scoring 89 not out against West Indies in Mumbai and dismissing Johnson Charles in the semi-final.
Pandya matched the milestone twice as well. In the 2024 T20 World Cup Super 8 match against Bangladesh in North Sound, he scored an unbeaten 50 and returned figures of 1 for 32. More recently, on February 12, 2026, against Namibia in Delhi, Pandya hammered 52 off 28 balls and picked up two wickets.
Dube’s 66 and 2 for 35 against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad now places him alongside these accomplished all-rounders in T20 World Cup history.
Crucial boost for India’s campaign
India’s total of 194 proved just enough as the Netherlands mounted a spirited chase. However, timely breakthroughs and disciplined death bowling helped the Suryakumar Yadav-led side close out the game.
Dube’s performance not only earned him accolades but also underlined his growing importance in India’s T20 set-up. Batting at No. 5 or lower, his aggressive strokeplay adds firepower in the middle overs, while his medium pace provides balance to the bowling attack.
The 66-run knock is also among the highest scores by an Indian batting at No. 5 or lower in a T20 World Cup match, further enhancing its significance.
A rising all-round asset
For India, the emergence of Dube as a dependable all-rounder offers depth in both departments. With senior players contributing consistently, his ability to influence games with both bat and ball adds a valuable dimension ahead of the knockout stages.
As the tournament progresses, India will hope Dube continues his rich vein of form and delivers similar match-defining performances.
With this win, India consolidated their standing in Group A and carried forward strong momentum into the final league fixtures.
