Mumbai: India’s historic triumph at Lord’s has drawn widespread praise, with former T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav leading the chorus of admiration for the women’s team. The India women’s national cricket team etched their names in history by becoming the first-ever women’s side to win a Test match at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, India secured a commanding 270-run victory over England women’s cricket team, marking a monumental moment in Indian cricket.

Suryakumar Yadav’s message goes viral

Suryakumar Yadav took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the team, and his heartfelt message quickly went viral among fans and the cricketing community.

“Heartiest congratulations to the team. What a historic win for us. Wishing you the best for all your future milestones,” he wrote.

His praise reflects the significance of the achievement, not just as a win but as a milestone that elevates the stature of women’s cricket in India.

Government joins in celebration

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also applauded the team’s remarkable performance, calling it a landmark achievement.

Taking to X, Mandaviya highlighted the importance of the victory at Lord’s, widely regarded as the “Home of Cricket.”

“History at Lord’s! Congratulations to our Women’s Cricket Team on becoming the first-ever women’s team to win a Test match at the iconic venue. A commanding 270-run victory over England makes this achievement even more special,” he wrote.

He added that such performances reflect the rising strength of women’s cricket in India and will inspire young athletes across the country.

Stellar performances power India to glory

India’s victory was built on outstanding individual and team performances. Yastika Bhatia stole the spotlight with a historic century—the first ever by a woman at Lord’s—setting the tone for India’s dominance.

She was ably supported by contributions from Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur, Richa Ghosh, and Deepti Sharma, who ensured India posted a formidable total.

On the bowling front, debutant Kranti Gaud impressed with a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Deepti Sharma then delivered a match-winning performance in the second innings, picking up four crucial wickets.

Chasing a daunting target of 457, England were bowled out for just 186, sealing a memorable victory for India.

End of an era for England veterans

The match also marked an emotional farewell for England stalwarts Heather Knight and Tammy Beaumont, whose international careers came to an end with this defeat.

While it was a historic day for India, it also symbolised a transition phase for England’s women’s cricket team.

A defining moment for women’s cricket in India

This victory is more than just a statistical milestone—it represents a shift in the global perception of women’s cricket in India. Winning at Lord’s, one of the most prestigious venues in the sport, underscores the team’s growth, resilience, and world-class capabilities.

With young talents emerging and senior players delivering consistently, the future of Indian women’s cricket looks brighter than ever. The team’s performance is expected to inspire a new generation of cricketers and further strengthen the sport’s popularity across the country.
