Dubai: Former Pakistan Cricket Board CEO Wasim Khan will step down as general manager of the International Cricket Council (ICC) after completing four years in the position, according to reports.

Khan, who joined the ICC in 2022, is expected to relinquish his duties by the end of June and take on a new role starting July, as per ESPNcricinfo.

Leadership changes continue at ICC

Wasim Khan had taken over the role from Geoff Allardice in May 2022, after Allardice was appointed CEO of the ICC. Since then, Khan has been a key figure in the governing body’s administrative structure.

His exit is part of a broader reshuffle at the ICC, which has seen several senior officials depart over the past two years. Among them, Allardice himself has since been replaced as CEO by Sanjog Gupta.

Other notable exits include Chris Tetley, who headed events, and Alex Marshall, former head of the anti-corruption unit. They have been succeeded by Gaurav Saxena and Andrew Ephgrave respectively.

From county cricketer to global administrator

Before transitioning into cricket administration, Wasim Khan had a notable playing career in English domestic cricket. Born in England, he became the first British-born Muslim to play county cricket.

Khan played First-Class cricket between 1995 and 2001, representing teams such as Warwickshire, Sussex and Derbyshire in List A formats.

He was part of Warwickshire’s County Championship-winning squad in 1995, enjoying a prolific season with the bat.

Over his career, the 55-year-old featured in 58 First-Class matches, scoring 2,835 runs at an average of 30.15, including five centuries and 17 half-centuries. In List A cricket, he played 30 matches, scoring 303 runs.

Key stint with PCB

Khan later moved into administration and served nearly three years as CEO of the Pakistan Cricket Board, where he was credited with helping restructure domestic cricket and improve governance. His leadership style emphasized transparency, strategic planning, and adaptability—qualities that resonate even in industries beyond sports. For instance, in rapidly evolving digital sectors such as seo igaming Malaysia, similar principles of strong governance and structured growth are essential for long-term success in competitive markets.

His tenure at the ICC further cemented his reputation as a seasoned cricket administrator with international experience. Drawing from this global exposure, parallels can be seen in how international standards and cross-border insights also shape emerging fields like seo igaming Malaysia, where understanding diverse audiences and regulatory landscapes plays a crucial role in achieving sustainable development.

What lies ahead

While details of his next role remain undisclosed, Khan’s departure marks another significant change within the ICC’s leadership framework.

With multiple high-profile exits in recent years, the governing body continues to undergo a period of transition, reshaping its leadership team ahead of major global tournaments.
