Bengaluru: The 14th edition of Bengaluru INDIA NANO commenced on Tuesday with a strong focus on the convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and nanotechnology, highlighting Karnataka’s ambition to become a global hub for deep-tech innovation and commercial research.
Held at The LaLiT Bengaluru, the conference is organised by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka, the Karnataka Science and Technology Promotion Society (KSTePS) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) under the theme, “Nanotech’s Next Frontier: AI & Beyond – Conceive, Converge, Commercialize.”
Karnataka pitches itself as a deep-tech leader
Inaugurating the event, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said Karnataka aims to lead not only in digital technologies but also in nanotechnology, semiconductors, advanced materials and deep-tech innovation.
“The future belongs to those who can translate research into real-world impact,” he said, emphasising the need to commercialise scientific breakthroughs.
Home Minister Priyank Kharge described the convergence of AI, nanotechnology, biotechnology and semiconductors as the next major wave of innovation, adding that Karnataka’s strong research institutions and startup ecosystem place it in a unique position to lead this transformation.
C N R Rao honoured, scientists recognised
The conference honoured Bharat Ratna Prof. C N R Rao, Honorary Chairman of the Vision Group on Nanotechnology, for his pioneering contribution to nanoscience in India.
The Prof. C N R Rao Bengaluru INDIA NANO Science Award was presented to Prof. B L V Prasad, Director of the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru.
The event also witnessed the participation of leading scientists, policymakers, industry experts and startup founders from India and abroad.
Global experts, startups and innovation on display
This year’s conference features 26 technical sessions, over 80 speakers, 800-plus delegates, 150 scientific posters, 50 exhibitors, participation from more than 10 countries, and an expected footfall of over 4,000 attendees.
Discussions are centred on nanotechnology in semiconductors, healthcare, agriculture, energy and environmental sustainability, alongside a dedicated Global Innovation Alliance track promoting international research collaboration.
An exhibition showcasing innovations from startups, research institutions and technology companies is being held alongside the conference, reinforcing Karnataka’s push to transform scientific research into commercially viable products.
