Artificial intelligence–generated content is increasingly making its way into mainstream digital platforms, and its growing presence on YouTube Music has left many users— including paying subscribers—deeply frustrated
Users flag surge in AI-generated tracks
Several users have taken to Reddit and online forums to complain that their YouTube Music recommendation feeds are being overwhelmed by AI-generated songs. According to these users, conventional controls such as Not Interested or Dislike have done little to reduce the appearance of such tracks.
One Reddit user wrote that upon opening the app, six out of ten recommendations were clearly AI-generated. The user added that even auto-generated playlists were dominated by similar content and that feedback tools only affected individual tracks rather than the accounts producing them.
“Dear Google, that’s not what I’m paying for. AI slop is really getting out of hand,” the user wrote, echoing the sentiment of many subscribers.
Recommendation controls seen as ineffective
Other users in the same discussion reported similar experiences, particularly while listening to specific genres such as R&B. They noted that disliking AI-generated songs did not stop the same AI-linked creator accounts from reappearing in recommendations.
Several users suggested that Google should introduce an option to block entire accounts producing AI-generated music, rather than forcing listeners to repeatedly flag individual tracks.
One commenter criticised YouTube’s approach, accusing the platform of being complicit by allowing large volumes of low-effort AI content to circulate unchecked.
Issue extends beyond YouTube Music
Users also pointed out that the problem is not limited to YouTube Music. AI-generated tracks are increasingly appearing on other major streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music, suggesting a wider industry challenge rather than a platform-specific flaw.
With AI tools now capable of generating full-length songs within seconds, the volume of synthetic music is growing rapidly. While some listeners say they can easily detect tracks lacking human creativity, others struggle to tell the difference.
Calls for stronger safeguards
Multiple Reddit threads indicate that this is a widespread issue, raising questions about whether streaming platforms will need to introduce clearer labelling, stricter recommendation filters, or dedicated opt-out controls for AI-generated content.
As AI reshapes digital creativity, users argue that platforms must balance innovation with listener choice—especially for subscribers who expect curated, human-created music experiences.
