Online learning continues to play a pivotal role in education as companies innovate to enhance student engagement and support teachers with new tools, interactive features, and artificial intelligence (AI). TIME and Statista’s second annual ranking of the top 350 edtech companies highlights the growing importance of online education.

The 2025 list reviewed over 7,000 companies, evaluating them on financial strength and industry impact. The U.S. led with 138 companies (39.4% of the list), followed by India with 33 (9.4%), and China with 23 (6.6%). However, Chinese companies dominated the top rankings, with Codemao, a coding and programming startup, claiming the top spot. Founded in 2015, Codemao partners with UNESCO and uses AI to teach coding through game creation.

The growing emphasis on AI, particularly in China’s curriculum for young students, is reshaping the edtech landscape. Many companies, such as Gradescope in the U.S., use AI to support teachers, providing automated grading and feedback, thus allowing teachers to focus on personalized instruction.

Toronto-based Ten Thousand Coffees, ranked eighth, focuses on helping post-college employees improve their skills and network. Meanwhile, AASOKA, an Indian learning platform integrating AI for K-12 students, topped the “Rising Stars” list for its impressive revenue growth.

While AI is expected to continue driving the edtech sector’s innovation, uncertainties around venture capital funding due to the economic shifts have left the industry’s outlook unclear.
