The Gulf Coast VA, in collaboration with the VHA Innovators Network (iNET) Greenhouse Opportunity, recently hosted an external innovator developing a virtual reality (VR) platform aimed at improving diabetic patient education.
House Call VR, the company behind the software, visited the hospital in December to gather user feedback. Veterans and VA employees tested the interactive VR modules, designed to enhance learning beyond traditional verbal and written methods. By immersing patients in an engaging digital experience, the platform aims to empower them with better knowledge and decision-making skills regarding their health.
Participants praised the initiative, emphasizing how this technology could have significantly improved their understanding of diabetes management. Insights from the session will help refine the software, with a final version expected in 2025.
This collaboration highlights the VA’s commitment to integrating cutting-edge innovation into healthcare, ensuring solutions are developed with direct input from Veterans and medical staff.
