Remember when Instagram teased its Edits app for a March launch? That never happened—but Instagram chief Adam Mosseri has now confirmed that the video-editing app is nearly ready and will be available within weeks.

Designed as Instagram’s answer to CapCut, Edits is currently in beta testing with select creators. The first version will be simplified, with more features added over time.

Addressing pricing concerns, Mosseri clarified that the app will be free at launch. However, premium features—especially those requiring AI-powered processing—might come with a subscription fee down the line.

Instagram has already hinted at some upcoming AI tools, including AI-generated backgrounds and animated still images. These advanced capabilities may eventually roll out as paid extras rather than being integrated into the main IG app.

Despite the possible costs, if the AI features deliver high-quality results, many creators will likely find them worth the price.

For now, Instagram users can expect a powerful, dedicated editing platform that enhances their creative workflow. And with launch day approaching quickly, expect a rush of downloads once it drops.
