New Delhi: Apple is set to hold its annual iPhone launch event on September 9, 2026, with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max expected to take centre stage. The event could mark a significant change in Apple’s usual iPhone launch strategy, with reports suggesting that the company may unveil its premium Pro models first and bring the standard iPhone 18 range later.
Apple has officially confirmed the September 9 event, titled “Surprise and shine”, but has not yet disclosed the products that will be unveiled. The event will begin at 10 am Pacific Time, which is 10:30 pm IST.
Alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models, Apple is also widely expected to showcase its first foldable iPhone, reportedly referred to as the iPhone Ultra in rumours. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air could reportedly arrive in spring 2027 instead.
Smaller Dynamic Island could be a key change
One of the most visible changes expected on the iPhone 18 Pro models is a smaller Dynamic Island.
The Pro models are expected to retain the 6.3-inch display on the iPhone 18 Pro and 6.9-inch display on the iPhone 18 Pro Max, broadly matching the screen sizes of their predecessors. However, Apple is reportedly working to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island by moving some Face ID components underneath the display.

Under the hood, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are expected to receive Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip.
The chip is reportedly being manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm process, which could bring improvements in both performance and power efficiency compared with previous-generation processors.
The move to a smaller manufacturing process could allow Apple to pack more computing capability into the same physical space while improving energy efficiency.
Reports also suggest Apple could change how the processor and memory are packaged internally. A wafer-level Multi-Chip Module approach has been tipped as one possibility, potentially allowing Apple to improve internal space utilisation.

Battery life could receive another boost with the new Pro models.
Leaks indicate that Apple may increase battery capacity, particularly on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Some reports have suggested that the Pro Max could cross the 5,500mAh mark, although the exact capacity remains unconfirmed.
The combination of a more efficient 2nm processor and a larger battery could potentially result in longer usage between charges.
However, battery capacity alone does not determine real-world battery life. Software optimisation, display efficiency, processor power management and network usage also influence how long a smartphone lasts on a single charge.
