A new sleep device promises to help people understand and improve their nightly routines without requiring them to wear a smartwatch, ring or other tracker.

Hatch has launched the Hatch Sleep Clock, a contactless sleep-tracking device designed to sit on a bedside table. The device costs $249.99 at launch and is initially available through Hatch, with other retailers expected to offer it later.

Sleep tracking without wearing a device

Unlike wearable trackers such as smart rings and fitness bands, the Hatch Sleep Clock uses ultra-low-power radio signals to detect movement and breathing while a person sleeps.

The device can monitor when users go to bed, fall asleep and wake up. According to research cited by the company, the technology behind the system has shown 97 per cent accuracy in detecting sleep.

The contactless approach could appeal to people who find wearable devices uncomfortable at night or simply prefer not to sleep with technology attached to their bodies.

Light and sound help create a bedtime routine

The device is designed to do more than record sleep data. Users can select an ideal time to begin winding down, after which the clock gradually introduces calming light and ambient sounds.

Hatch’s library includes meditation, sleep stories, ASMR and other sleep-focused audio experiences. These can be paired with lighting intended to support relaxation and sleep.

The clock also works as a gradual wake-up device. Instead of relying on a sudden, loud alarm, it slowly increases light and sound to create a gentler start to the morning.

Designed to encourage better habits

Hatch says the goal is not simply to tell users how well they slept but to encourage healthier bedtime habits.

The Sleep Clock combines sleep tracking with personalised routines, light and audio experiences, giving users a single bedside device for both winding down and waking up.

As sleep technology continues to move beyond traditional wearables, contactless devices such as the Hatch Sleep Clock could offer another option for people seeking better insight into their nightly routines without adding another gadget to their bodies. #HatchSleepClock #SleepTracker #SleepTechnology #SmartHome #Wellness #SleepHealth
