Concerns over child safety on Roblox have intensified after an independent game developer claimed that the platform’s existing safeguards are not sufficient to protect young users.

Developer raises serious safety concerns

In an interview, the developer said parents should monitor children on Roblox “24/7,” warning that without constant supervision, the platform may not be safe for younger users.

Roblox, one of the most popular gaming platforms among children aged 8 to 12 in the UK, reportedly has over 80 million daily users globally, with around 40 per cent under the age of 13.

Open platform creates risks

Roblox allows users to create and play games in an open, interactive environment. While games are labelled by age suitability, critics argue that harmful or inappropriate content can still slip through.

The developer claimed to have seen instances where users were exposed to violent themes and inappropriate interactions, including attempts to move conversations off the platform.

The platform has faced ongoing criticism over its potential misuse by predators and the exposure of children to disturbing or violent content through user-created games.

The developer alleged that not all reported content is acted upon effectively, raising concerns about moderation processes.

In response, Roblox stated that safety remains a top priority. The company highlighted its age verification systems, behaviour monitoring, and restrictions that limit interactions between children and adults.

It also said it takes swift action against users who violate its rules and continues to improve its safety tools.
