Swiggy has introduced its Swiggy Seal initiative to improve food hygiene and quality standards across restaurants, based on feedback from over seven million customer reviews. Initially launched in Pune, the program will expand to more than 650 cities by November.
The Swiggy Seal is a badge awarded to restaurants that meet the platform’s hygiene benchmarks, which will be displayed on their menu pages. Restaurants will receive detailed customer feedback on key areas like contamination prevention, cooking practices, and packaging quality. Swiggy has partnered with FSSAI-accredited agencies to offer discounted hygiene audits and services like pest control, helping restaurants maintain cleanliness.
In addition to audits, Swiggy will provide educational webinars led by industry experts. These sessions will cover essential hygiene topics such as food handling, contamination prevention, and best cooking practices.
Swiggy’s Head of Customer and Restaurant Experience, Deepak Maloo, said, “As Swiggy completes a decade in food delivery, we continue to believe that access to clean, hygienic food is as important as food that tastes great. With the launch of the Swiggy Seal, we aim to support our restaurant partners with actionable insights to help them enhance hygiene standards.”
Swiggy will also monitor restaurants that receive the Swiggy Seal. If concerns arise, the platform may review and revoke the badge if hygiene standards are not maintained.
In a related development, Swiggy recently announced plans to deliver quick-to-prepare meals from nearby restaurants, focusing on ready-to-pack dishes like ice cream, snacks, and beverages within a 2 km radius of customers.
