Digital photo frames have long been used to display holiday pictures and family memories, but a new smart canvas is taking a very different approach by turning spoken ideas into artwork.
Fraimic, a new cordless “smart canvas”, uses generative artificial intelligence to create customised images based on what users say.
Your voice becomes the artwork
Instead of simply cycling through photographs stored on a device, the canvas allows users to describe what they want to see.
Generative AI then transforms those spoken words into custom artwork, giving the device a more creative purpose than a conventional digital picture frame.
The idea could allow users to change the artwork displayed in their homes simply by describing a new scene, mood or visual concept.
It does not look like a glowing screen
One of the key differences is the display itself.
Fraimic uses a high-definition Spectra 6 E Ink display rather than the glossy, highly saturated screens commonly found on digital picture frames.
The E Ink technology gives the artwork a matte appearance designed to resemble a physical print. This makes the canvas look more like an art object than a bright electronic display.
A quieter way to display digital art
The cordless design also means the canvas can be placed without being tied to a power cable in the same way as many conventional displays.
By combining generative AI with an E Ink screen, Fraimic is attempting to bridge the gap between digital technology and traditional wall art.
Instead of choosing between a digital slideshow and a physical painting, users can create changing artwork while retaining a more understated, print-like appearance.
