Messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced a new quiz feature for Channel administrators with its latest Android beta update, version 2.26.1.14, marking a significant step beyond basic polls and reactions. The feature is aimed at boosting engagement by allowing admins to test followers’ knowledge rather than simply gauge opinions.
Quizzes bring gamified engagement
Unlike standard polls, the new quiz tool requires Channel admins to pre-select a correct answer before publishing. When users choose the right option, they are rewarded with a brief confetti animation on screen, adding a gamified element to the experience. Quizzes can include both text and image-based answer options, making them suitable for educational, informational and brand-led content.
The feature is accessible from the same attachment menu currently used for polls and questions, ensuring familiarity for admins already managing Channels.
Insights for creators and educators
One of the most notable additions is enhanced analytics. Admins can view participation rates, see how many followers answered correctly, and—if respondents are in their contacts—identify who selected which option. This level of insight is expected to be particularly useful for educators, content creators and brands looking to measure audience attention and understanding.
The ability to add images to answer choices also opens up new use cases, such as identifying landmarks, products or visual details, turning one-way Channel broadcasts into more interactive experiences.
Currently limited to beta users
At present, the quiz feature is available only to select testers using Android beta version 2.26.1.14 via Google Play. Early indicators suggest it may also be appearing for some iOS testers, though no official timeline has been announced for a wider rollout.
WhatsApp has historically rolled out Channel features gradually, meaning users on the stable version of the app may need to wait several weeks before quizzes become widely available.
Channels set to become more interactive
Since launching Channels, WhatsApp has steadily added tools to help admins build and retain audiences. The quiz feature signals a shift towards more interactive and competitive content, potentially changing how news publishers, educators and community groups use Channels.
Once rolled out more broadly, quizzes are expected to make Channels more engaging, informative and data-driven, moving them closer to interactive social feeds while retaining WhatsApp’s broadcast-style simplicity.
