Recently, a woman taking the Bhubaneswar-Junagarh Express posted videos of the “appalling” situation she saw while on the train. Jasmita Pati voiced her dismay and drew attention to the dirty conditions on the train.

A video of a rat scuttling around in the train’s AC compartment was shared by Ms. Pati. She documented the “appalling cleanliness conditions” and dust on the compartment mirror in a different video.

Along with the videos, Ms Pati wrote, “Shocked by the sight of rats scurrying around and the appalling cleanliness conditions on this train ride. Something urgently needs to be done to address this issue.”

Her post soon went viral on the internet and gained the attention of Railway Seva, the official account for support for rail passengers. The department wrote, “Please share your PNR number and mobile no. preferably via DM to enable us to take immediate action.”

In a subsequent post, the department wrote, “For necessary action escalated to the concerned official.”

In October of last year, rats were found wandering around and consuming the food that had been stored inside a train’s pantry. A passenger recorded the startling event on camera, which was then posted to social media.

On October 15, a user going by the handle @mangirish_tendulkar shared the video on Instagram while traveling with his family on the 11099 LTT MAO Express. They saw rats running around the train’s pantry car while they were traveling. He captured this unsettling scene on camera and posted it to social media.
